Funding Approved for Carihi Secondary Rebuild

Carihi Secondary: Fire Recovery Update June 4, 2026

The Campbell River School District has received official approval from the Province for funding to rebuild key facilities at Carihi Secondary School. This approval allows the project to move ahead.

The funding marks a major milestone following the November 2024 fire that damaged the school’s A‑wing, including the gym and several learning spaces. With approval now in place, district staff will begin working to move the project forward as quickly as possible, starting with plans to begin repairs to the gym.

“We know how important these spaces are for students, staff, and the wider community,” said Craig Gillis, Chairperson of the School District 72 Board of Education. “We appreciate the strong advocacy from our community and our shared commitment to restoring Carihi Secondary.”

The district can now move ahead on timelines, requests for proposals, and next steps. More details, including design and construction timelines, will be shared as they are confirmed.
